Printer over WiFi
WiFi printers are convenient because they don't need a network cable, but they take more setup to run reliably.
⚠️ Important recommendation
Whenever possible, use Ethernet instead of WiFi for printers. WiFi printers can drop offline when signal is weak or when the router renews IPs via DHCP.
If the client insists on WiFi, follow this process to minimise problems.
Step 1 — Connect the printer to the WiFi network
Each brand has its own method. The most common ones:
Epson TM-T20III / TM-T88
- Print the network config sheet: hold
Feedwhile powering on. - Connect to the printer's temporary WiFi network from your phone/PC.
- Browse to
http://192.168.192.168→ Network settings → WiFi. - Enter the client's SSID and password.
- Save and reboot the printer.
Star TSP143III
- Download Star WebPRNT or Star Utility from the Star website.
- Connect the printer via USB first.
- Configure WiFi from the utility.
- Disconnect USB and connect over WiFi.
HOIN / Xprinter / MUNBYN
- Print the config:
Feed+ power on. - The sheet shows the current IP and the config portal.
- Browse to that IP → network → WiFi.
Step 2 — Assign a static IP
Mandatory: if the IP changes (DHCP), the printer will stop working. Two options:
Option A — Static IP on the router (DHCP reservation)
On the client's router, always assign the same IP to the printer's MAC. Cleanest option.
Option B — Static IP on the printer itself
Set a static IP directly on the printer (procedure varies by brand). Make sure to use an IP outside the router's DHCP range.
Step 3 — Enter it in the Print Server
When pairing the Print Server, enter:
- IP: the static IP you assigned (e.g.
192.168.1.100) - Port:
9100
If the printer was already paired and only the IP changed: Print Server Printer tab → type the new one → "Save IP".
Verify
In the Print Server, "Verify printer" and then "Test print". In the panel, the printer should show "Server online".
If it doesn't print, check:
- Is the printer on and connected to WiFi? (WiFi LED solid, not blinking)
- Is the IP correct? (Reprint the config sheet)
- Is the Print Server PC on the same network as the printer?
