Pairing with the Print Server

YourTurn Print Server is a desktop app (Windows or macOS) that bridges yourturn.space and the thermal printer on the local network. It must be running on a PC in the same network as the printer.

Network printers only. The Print Server sends tickets to the printer over IP and port (TCP 9100). USB-only printers are not supported: use one with Ethernet or WiFi. See compatible printers.

How pairing works

You don't create the printer in the panel first or copy codes by hand. The Print Server opens the browser and an account admin authorizes the printer there:

Print Server (printer IP) → browser opens → admin names it and clicks "Authorize printer" → printer created and linked

Step by step

1. Download and install

Download the latest version from the releases page:

  • Windows: YourTurn-Print-Server-Setup-<version>.exe. From 1.1.0 on it updates itself: new versions download in the background and install when the PC shuts down (or at 3:00 if it stays on). You can also force it from the tray icon → "Install version … and restart".
  • macOS: YourTurn-Print-Server-<version>-arm64.dmg (Apple Silicon) or -x64.dmg (Intel). The app isn't signed by Apple yet: the first time, open it with right-click → Open. New versions are installed by hand.

PCs with a version older than 1.1.0 need to install it once by hand; after that, on Windows, they update themselves.

2. Enter the printer

On first launch the app shows "1 · Server & Printer":

  1. Type the printer IP and port (usually 9100). The IP is on the configuration sheet the printer prints itself (see Ethernet or WiFi).
  2. Click "Verify printer before continuing" to check the PC can reach it.
  3. Click "Authorize with browser →".

Only when installing for a test environment: turn on "Connect to a different server" and pick the server.

3. Authorize in the browser

The Print Server shows a device code and opens the browser on the page "Authorize print server":

  1. If you aren't signed in, sign in with an admin user of the account.
  2. Check the PC and printer IP are the right ones.
  3. Type a name for the printer (e.g. "Front desk printer") and click "Authorize printer".

The printer appears under Printers in the panel and the Print Server connects on its own. Only authorize PCs you recognise: any PC you authorize can print the account's tickets.

⏰ The code is valid for 15 minutes. If it expires, click "Authorize with browser →" again.

4. Check the status

Under Printers in the panel, the printer shows:

  • 🟢 Server online — the Print Server is connected (with how long ago it was last seen).
  • The thermal printer status reported by the Print Server.

"Server offline" means the Print Server isn't running or the PC has no internet. The status follows the signal the Print Server sends every 30 seconds: if it stops for a minute and a half, it turns offline.

5. Paper settings and a test print

  • In the panel, Printers → edit (pencil): paper width (58 or 80 mm), cut type and margins.
  • In the Print Server, Printer tab → "Test print": a basic ticket, one with the real design, or free text. The Ticket Editor tab sets font sizes and which sections are printed.

6. Assign the printer to a kiosk

In Kiosks → create or edit, choose the printer under Printer. From then on every ticket taken at that kiosk prints automatically. See Kiosk with printer.

Starting with the computer

The Print Server opens by itself when you sign in to the PC (Windows and macOS, from version 1.1.3) and stays in the system tray / menu bar. If it's closed, open it again from the Start menu or Applications.

Changing printer or IP

  • The printer's IP changed: in the Print Server, Printer tab, type the new IP and click "Save IP". Better still, reserve the IP in the router so it doesn't change.
  • Link another printer or authorize again: in the Print Server, "Disconnect printer" and repeat step 2.
